A stone and brick home

Design Philosophy

Unique Homes for Unique Families

“My design philosophy is simple. Custom home designs should reflect the homeowner’s wishes.

I ask lots of questions. I listen. My job is to get your home design on paper. I do not start with an agenda or a preferred style. All homes should be beautiful, but they should also be personal, livable, and inspiring. A new custom home should add to the quality of life for every person living there. You bring your inspiration to the table - your needs, desires, and any photos and drawings that you have saved. I bring a solid background in construction, basic home working principles, and resale knowledge. Together we design a wonderful home for your family that is exactly what you want to build while working within your budget and maintaining your investment.”

Background

Over 40 Years of Learning

“I clearly remember the day that I fell in love with custom home design. The plans I had been working on (in high school for a local building designer) that had been just drawings suddenly looked like dimensional houses. I could actually see what they were going to look like when they were built! Houses have been my passion since that day.  47 years have passed and I have designed homes every single day. I have been the founder and principle for Laura Lowe Design for over 40 years. In those 40 years I have been blessed with wonderful clients and have been able to design over 2000 custom home plans. My greatest reward has been seeing families being excited about their new homes – the dream study, the chef’s kitchen, the son’s reading nook, the daughters window that works perfectly with her telescope, and all the things that make a home design personal.

I’ve also done a few other industry related things along the way. I have personally won over 350 residential design awards.

I have been featured in Builder, Professional Builder, and Luxury Homes magazines. As an industry expert, I wrote a syndicated column on residential architecture for the Dallas Times Herald and have been a frequent speaker for building industry events.

I have also served the home building industry as president of the Texas Institute of Building Design, a board of director member of the American Institute of Building Design, president of the Dallas Homebuilder Association Associates Council, and as a member of the executive committee of the Dallas Homebuilder Association.

My background also includes Mom (where are we going to store that?), business owner (how can I make this home office work?), homeowner (where does the tv go?), and one who loves all things “housing (let’s look at ideas!).” I am grateful beyond measure to have a lengthy career doing what I might do anyway – even on vacation, my family has to indulge my desire to look at new residential construction. “
